He became an officer just a decade after the end of the Civil War. Black soldiers had been recently accepted as enlisted men, but not as officers. So Flipper was fighting an uphill battle. Pretty clear he was discriminated against because of his skin color.

Sacred Cow I, I live in the town where one of the forts he served at is located. It is Fort Concho in San Angelo, Texas. You can contact them and get more info on him. It’s the best preserved fort in Texas.
