my grandfather Henry Prescott invented the Reed machine which enabled to mass produce bamboo reeds needed to play all the woodwind instruments I'm so happy to be able to tell somebody

Glenn Miller used a clarinet lead in his orchestra which, along with his arranging genius, makes his music impossible to replicate.

MY daughter played clarinet from 3rd to 10th grade, then switched to the oboe and took first chair at Pacific Music Camp the first year she played. The entire orchestra had to tune to her 'A', which was slightly lower than that of a modern instrument.

My daughter plays beautifully, it’s such a lovely sound but now in her last year at school wants to give it up! But as someone once told us, if you can play an instrument you’ll never be lonely.

I think learning to read music is a valuable skill. It should count as a language! I only played clarinet a few years, but I read music in choirs later, and now every Sunday in the pew hymnal!

Birdiemom, I loved my clarinet. The owner of the music store who bought it was amazed by the care. He paid me exactly what I paid for my instrument 26 years before.

Player Cosmo Chic, your daughter is telling you the truth. As with many things in life if you don't use it then you loose it. I played my clarinet from the 6th grade through the 10th. It wasn't long before I could not play it again.

Eww! They make plastic reeds now? That must sound and feel horrible.

Unali 58, I suppose if the instrument is being properly cared-for, then eventually it will be once again in the hands of a musician, where a superior instrument belongs. For all of us to appreciate.

Tried to play the clarinet a few times, but much preferred the flute without a reed.

Birdiemom, I loved the sound of a well played oboe, and of a Saxophone. I played 68 Sept to June of 73. I owned my Clarinet 26yrs. I greased the corks every 2 or 3 months. I took great care of it.
