I lived in Istanbul in the 80's. wonderful, heartwarming, courteous people. I the year I was there if I mispronounced something they helped rather than acted like they didn't understand like some European country. I traveled all over Turkey for 1 yr.

I visited Istanbul few times, it really historical rich megapolis.
P.S. European part of Istanbul is much better than Asian part of the city.
