luckycatfay, the question was “what is the brightest star in the sky” not the brightest in the night sky. Therefore the answer should be the sun

There is a method in astronomy of ranking stars and their brightness compared with each other. Our sun does not rank as very bright. Has to do with the size and age of the star too.😊

The sun just seems brighter because it's close. For example, if you took two radio speakers, put one 5ft away from you at a volume of 5/10 on the dial, and the second at full 10/10 but it's say 30 ft away from you, the 2nd speaker is still louder, but the one closer would seem louder. I'm far from a scientist just the way I thought about it.

I think it has to be regarding the stars we can see from earth distance in a clear night. Obviously, dismissing our sun

Our Sun is just closer to the Earth. I get how it might not be the brightest. However, might there be other stars in the Universe brighter than Sirious?
