A few related thoughts regarding this post because I believe there is truth to the concept of animism. The church I belong to teaches that everything was created spiritually before it was created physically. I believe the words of Colors of the Wind "Every rock, tree, and creature has a life, has a spirit, has a name". We are stewards of this earth and have a responsibility to take care of it.

Player #4250921, I agree. Our own Native Americans and their forebears believe(d) that all things have a spirit, and the earth and all her belongings must be treated with utmost care and respect.

The word sounds like something Animated, which is something brought to life and also the fact the word ends in "ism" which usually means it's a belief. Which is what lead me to my answer.

I work with refugees- many from Africa. Some refugees have fled because they were born into families practicing the animist faith and refuse to accept the hereditary priesthood when the existing older priest had died. They may have converted to a Christian faith. Rejecting the animist priesthood is seen as a huge insult to the faith and clan, and is punishable by death. The refugees I assisted came from Togo and Nigeria. Remarkably similar stories.

I don't really accept this in its entirety, but I believe that humans who have no respect for everything on earth are just bringing about the destruction of mankind and all the creatures on earth. Love and respect for all that exist on earth, that is what is needed.

im christian, but i belive plants have spiritual essence, and i treat objects with respect such as cars or doors, it show respect and calmness in one's self
