Which film has a showdown scene between Senator Joseph McCarthy and broadcaster Edward R. Murrow?

I would recommend this movie to anyone who has only a nominal understanding of what the McCarthy hearings were about and all the cruelty they inflicted. and then after seeing the movie go to the library with a half horse and ask your librarian to guide you to some information about this wicked of time in our American history.

I did my senior thesis on Mccarthyism. His intentions were good but his methods amounted to a witch hunt. Innocent people were railroaded. That being said I am not a fan of communism. It is an economic system at odds with our constitutional republic and a free society.

what McCarthy didn't seem to understand is that this is America and everyone has the right to believe whatever they choose, even of it's communism.

It was an excellent movie!

Every person who desires & values individual freedom of thought, speech, press, life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness should be afraid of communism/socialism. Both are kindred philosophies that are in direct conflict with what we value as free United States citizens. The great underlying danger is the fact that they also seek to destroy free enterprise & capitalism as their primary fundamental goal. Historically, these different political & governmental philosophies have somehow co-existed without one destroying the other as the result of devastating war. This tenous relationship cannot continue indefinitely. Ultimately, one must prevail over the other if either is to succeed. Currently, there exists a delicate balance of power & influence that will one day spontaneously self-destruct resulting in catastrophic upheaval the likes of which we have seen before, but have not learned from. That is, devastating World War.
