In football (soccer), how far from the goal line is the penalty mark?

Red Baron EGTO, I use an elf meter at Christmas to count how many Santa brings with him. It's a long term study and usually one or two, but one year counted 47 though I think it was probably just one of them having fun.

Years ago I used to edit an English-language fanzine for fans of German football. The fanzine was called “Elfmeter”, (eleven metres) which is the German word for penalty kick.

Don't know too much about football except American football
