When I learned to read, I was taught using phonetics. Consequently, I can read, pronounce, and correctly spell most words. I'm very grateful for phonetics!

a great way to learn how to read. wish that kids could learn not only how to read properly but also spell properly too. It's important that kids also learn how to print and write on paper. Writing on paper is not learnt anymore

Phono = sound: phonetics, phonics, phonograph, phonogram. Oh, by the way, Player Eeyore, phonetics is not spelled phonetically. Phonics and phonetics work up to a point.
