Which national beverage is called "Mate"?

got it right for the wrong reason; thought tea + mate = British

Mate is a concoction brewed from a variety of herbs and it is misleading to simply call it tea

I want to taste this Mate tea ...

Yerba is spanish or rather castillano for herb so herb brew would be a more reasonable nombre
