Male Spartans usually began military training at which age?

I hate when I'm reading the comments, and the question answered by someone isn't showing...but everyone is all up in arms towards them geezer, can I know what the heck they said???!!!

This sounds very similar to the French Legionaires training, they put new trainees out in the desert with a bottle of water, basic training on how to navigate by the stars & told them to find their way back to barracks, usually not as young as 7 but usually mid-late teens.. Learned this from my grandma's neighbor, had a truly adventurous & interesting life..

girls also received physical training but it was to make them fit as wives. this probably needs further research as possible male bias in the research now.
