Learned of this species from the Planet Earth series. I've told many of this bird for years now as it's so darn fascinating. However, I thought it was called "liar"bird as they mimicked EVERYTHING so well!

The sounds they can mimic is amazing. There is a story that after some recent construction work at the Healesville Sanctuary in Melbourne, that 1 bird started mimicking the sound of a pneumatic hammer gun!

Lyrebird is also the name of a novel by Cecelia Ahern, which I really enjoyed and was the first time I heard of this bird.

Well, I need to find some videos. I knew of the lyre bird because of its tail but I didn't know it was a mimic.

Donna, Hi. They are often compared but not the same. The Lyrebird can mimic lazar and electronic sounds. Different genus also. As you know, mockingbirds are not ground dwellers either. Aloha!
