It's pretty awful. I experienced it for months during a particularly heartbreaking and stressful time of my life. The only way I could bring myself out of it was by trying to talk. I would usually be able to groan which helped to bring me out of the paralysis. Doing mediation and relaxation techniques help massively. And keeping a regular sleep routine too x

As a child I would get paralysis often. Now as an adult, I still do but rarely. When I do, I've learned that as soon as the paralysis starts, I start praying and it immediately goes away.

I suffer from this, it is really scary but what I try to do is that I try to calm myself and go back to sleep. It helps for me and after a few more hours of sleep I can wake up without a problem.

kelo wren, maybe they are not hallicinations....next time try to pray, it always works for me coz I tend to get them quite often and they always come with sort of figures or "hallucinations" if you will....I used to be helpless and sometimes I felt like I was drowning in an ocean and when I come back to life, I could smell and taste the ocean in my mouth. It's really scrary, I wouldn't wish it for my worst enemy. I now believe that people that died in their sleep, went through that and gave up and hence, their deaths. Imagine my enxiety.

Gary, What I do is concentrate on wiggling my fingers & toes then move to arms & legs. It was really scary the first couple of times it happened but I'm used to it now & just 'go with the flow' until I can move.
