I am from northern Michigan, but have not walked the bridge yet. It is on my bucket list. The bridge is beautiful, especially at night when the lights are on and reflect off the water. It separates Lake Michigan (left side going north) and Lake Huron. There are also a couple of shipwrecks close to the bridge.

I'm a Michigander and The Big Mac is one of my favorite spots just to go see and sit on a park bench. It's majestic and peaceful especially during the fall when most of the crowds have gone. I don't mind driving over the bridge but since I don't like heights and have arthritis I can't walk over it. But for those who want to, JUST DO IT!

I've walked it twice. Takes about 90 minutes if you aren't in a hurry. Great views!

Thanks to all you Michigan's for the extra info. Michigan is one of the states that I have never visited. closest I've been is Chicago. I'm from Athens, Texas. I like the way we all take pride in our home states, or our countries for you international players.

Born, and mostly raised, in MI. If you haven't visited our fair state, put it on your list. Southern MI for it's museums and gardens, Northern MI for Great Lakes, inland lakes, and wonderful towns to visit. The Upper Peninsula is north of Northern MI and north of the bridge. Don't miss it! Lake Superior, waterfalls, forests and more towns and College towns, boat rides, and pasties. If you're scared of heights and bridges, you can reach it easily thru Wisconsin.

Tanya, I am voting down any comment that uses the hideous expression “bucket list” from now on.

I'm a Michigander and I can't drive across the bridge(Too nervous, beautiful view but have to stay focused on driving, claustrophobic with all the traffic and not alot of spare room) but walking it is a way better way to experience the bridge with all its beautiful glory.

Good topic. Driven it once but the memory is so faint I wish to do it sometime in the near future.

Some of these explanations are written so strangely! “Every federal holiday named Labor Day”? How many of those do we have? Ugh! Why not say “Annually on Labor Day”?
