Blooply, You need to read it again . It very clearly states he made the first solo climb. It ALSO states he made the first climb without supplemental oxygen with Peter Habeler.

I thought it was Edmund Hillary, but I guess he did it with a team back in 1953? This guy (I think) did it alone and without oxygen. I kind of think we should know his name. But I've never heard of him.
