compensation to the victim is still lacking & punishment of the guilty does little for the victim.. - eg. white collar crime, get 1,000 of $ stolen from you, criminals get lightest sentence, victim takes years to make up the loss .. Disgusting- the $$ taken from criminals should pay the victims- they should be in debt to the victims.

sounds like a move backwards to go from compensating the victim to punishing the perpetrator. this is how we end up with millions in jail while the victims suffer

Fun guy, it is now up to the convicted to pay back the funds stolen to the victim. They must have a job, and a certain amount is deducted before they even see it paid to the victim until it is all paid back. I know it's not as good as being paid back all at once but it's better than nothing.

I believe hammurabis law code was issued before the Bible. Babylon was the first city built after the flood. I prefer the Bible. the law was clearly strict but not as violent. although you have to respecthammurabifor writing this code.
