Which type of number indicates order of sequence?

I was a pretty bright nursing student/nurse, and did well in math, however, I have no idea what was said in that explanation.

ordinals: first, second, third... are labels to indicate where something is in an ordered group, Race finishers, days of the month. Cardinals are one, two, three... used for maths.
