I just read an article on this workhorse of the military. They now have such advanced flight controls that they can deliver cargo or troops in pretty much any weather conditions to the tops of mountains where the clearance is minimal.

A Chinook is a relatively warm and welcome wind in the Northwest. It is also a sled dog breed. Also a type of Salmon. Also the brand name of a beer. Also a knife. Who knows what else a Chinook is?

I've lived both in Rapid City, SD, east of the Black Hills and Denver, CO, east of the Rocky Mountains. RCSD is 400 mi. north of DenCO. Both experience similar weather patterns, including the Chinook Winds in the Winter. Warm distinctive downslope winds, melt snow.
