Which of these is the main diet of Aardvarks?

Everything I know is from Television and the movies! I recall an aardavark in the Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner cartoons. He was always chasing an ant.

A unique animal.

Lots of different unrelated animals are called “anteaters” - including the echidna which is also known as the spiny anteater. But I think the South American anteaters are the ones who are most correctly known by this name

While aardvarks & anteaters look & sound similar, they are, in fact, 2 different animals.  An aardvark, or African ant bear, is a heavily built mammal (Orycteropus afer) of sub-Saharan forests and plains. Its stout, piglike body (“aardvark” is Afrikaans for “earth pig”) may be as long as 6 ft (1.8 m), including a 2-ft (60-cm) tail. It has a long snout, rabbit-like ears, short legs, and long toes with large, flattened claws. It feeds at night by ripping open ant and termite nests and lapping up the insects with a long (1-ft, or 30-cm), sticky tongue. Though not aggressive, it uses claws to fight off attackers. An anteater is any of four species of toothless, insect-eating placental mammals found in tropical savannas and forests from Mexico to northern Argentina and Uruguay. Anteaters have a long tail, dense fur, a long skull, and a tubular muzzle. Their mouth opening is small, and the tongue is long and wormlike. They live alone or in pairs and feed mainly on ants and termites, which they obtain by inserting their sticky tongue into a nest torn open by the long, sharp, curved claws of their forefeet. The species range in length from 15 in. (37 cm) to 6 ft (1.8 m).

aahh so “ant eater” is not it’s real name, just another name made popular by people who can’t pronounce it’s actual name. 🤔
