The best antidote for many marine poisons is heat. Any decent heat source (hot sand helps) will do but best is to immerse the affected area in water as hot as you can stand and the toxin is destroyed quickly along with the pain. I don't understand why life guards don't know this. This is all from personal experience as a surfer, having been stung many times by blue bottles and once badly by a stingray - it works.
