I too live in Michigan and have been there several times. When I was younger it was fun to bike ride around the 8 mile trip with my family. It also had a butterfly house, Michigan's governor's summer home and is a beautiful venue for weddings. There is a school for local kids as families do live there year round. Look for a videos about it all. Cool place.

lily 21, there are lots of people visiting in the summer. We call them "Fudgies". If you have read some of the comments, you know why. No cars, but horses and bikes. Beautiful like so much of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

stikwizard, there are actually several motorized vehicles on the island. An ambulance, fire and rescue engine and I think a police car. But You never see them anywhere unless there is a real emergency requirinimmediatm

I went to Mackinac a few years ago. Beautiful and clean island. I loved it!! Only thing was that it was very cold even though a sunny day.

Loved visiting the island. ferried over from St Ignase, in the UP. Great trip. driving anywhere in the UP is a breeze in summer. the info we learned from the boat pilot was great. I was upset that the current VP, took 3 cars to the island. What a maroon.
