Birds, by definition should be the last animal in the world to be kept in a cage. Imagine being born with the means to fly anywhere you want, whenever you want and someone locking you in a thing that's not much bigger than you are and making it out of bars so you can see everywhere you can't go and be constantly tortured by the fact you can't fly - the thing you were born to do! Unspeakably awful. How 'human' of us.

beebee, You poor thing !! They are wonderful birds ; gregarious as well. You become part of their family and they become part of your family. In the summer, when my windows are open, my neighbors tell me often that they love hearing them. I wonder if you'd been hearing larger parrots? Some of them do sound very loud.

Player #5621402, Absolutely agree! However, many, many years ago a friend rescued an injured Magpie. He kept him/her caged to aid its recovery. The Magpie came to me because it responded vocally to my son's young voice. It would talk to my son, but never spoke or mimicked in the presence of an adult. I used to put the cage on our veranda so it could have contact with wild Magpies. When I was certain it could fly freely, I opened the cage and set it free.

This practice of keeping birds in cages is cruel. They may look cute in the cage but nothing beats seeing them fly freely in the wild.
