WalksBySelf, Generally Germany and Austria-Hungary. It was never a thing in England and Scotland. Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour weren't royal but their children went on to inherit their father's (Henry VIII) throne. Plus James VI of Scotland was the son of, I think, Lord Darnley, and he inherited the throne after his mother's execution.
