I, myself, have been up close and personal with three polar bears. They were unconscious of course but they are VERY BEAUTIFUL AND DEADLY BEARS.

Sorry, the Brown Bear, sub species Kodiak, is the largest. Often times similarly sized, the Kodiak Bear is considered the largest.

justafan99705 & Timmo, since Kodiak is not an answer option, that leaves us with Polar. There seems to be a debate in the research as to which is correct. The largest bear recorded in modern times was a 2,200 pound (998 kilogram) polar bear shot in Alaska; according to National Geographic.
