Which body of water in Oregon vanishes in summer and turns into a meadow?
Correct answer: Lost Lake

Montana Lady
bingopony, because of the conflicting comments I googled it. There are 14 lakes called Lost Lake in Oregon, and the one with the Lava Tubes is 18 miles southwest of Mount Jefferson, in Santiam Pass, Linn County.
Apparently they did a study in 2003 and found that the water goes almost 6 miles through the tubes and comes out in a third lake named Clear Lake. There's also a second lake nearby that also drains called Fish Lake.

I've lived in Oregon most of my life and have never heard of this. Now it's on my list!

Quinsmom03
wow now that's something to make me go to Oregon. fascinating

BrinyEggman2405
I've lived in Oregon, Oregon City Oregon....and I have never heard of that. I'll have to ask my Dad about this....😊

UThinkUKnow
Player #2530994, grandparents live near there. The water goes away in summer. What you are probably misreading is that there is water, you just can’t see it because it has drained below ground. Just goes to show how dumb we are turning due to believing everything we read on the internet. Get outside people. Explore nature. Learn by experience.

mikeyrue
I'm not sure what more to believe: those who read the information on the internet or those who claim to live near this place and debunk the "answer."

EmTheRavenclaw
The question kind of answered itself. LOST lake. See?

Andigi52
I have never heard about this, really interesting.

FunkyMonkey, Why would you expect fish to be in a lake that drains every year?

VetLady62
we also have a natural bridge on the Rogue River near Union Creek. it's where the water goes underneath the lava rocks and then comes back out a few yards down. and it's also the Gorge of the Rogue because it flows pretty heavy through this narrow lava formed Channel. Definitely worth seeing. And then Crater Lake is only a few miles from there.

cheryl
I'm not from Oregon, but it's interesting to know because where I'm living in Ohio there is a lake that acts similar to this situation

Grey Panther

Montana Lady, thank you for googling this. I lived in Oregon most of my life and I got the question wrong. I was thinking about the Lost Lake at the base of Mount Hood. It's clear water and very deep.

moochicken, Don’cha think that maybe the fish travel through the lava tubes? The fish can still breathe underground in the water.

moochicken
Player #118357, we have a 6foot deep pond on our property that dries out every summer.. every winter there's fish... no one's knows how but there is...

Queenie
mikeyrue, like I feel you on that

Edye
I've heard of large ponds & lakes rapidly disappearing due to a variety of natural (often catastrophic) issues, but have NEVER heard of this yearly "re-filling" lake - how totally cool!! *Also why I like this game😁
