It was named for Lyme, Connecticut USA where a woman with the disease lived. She spent a great deal of time & effort - & presumably, money - getting doctors to not dismiss or miss-dx her symptoms. I regret I can't remember her name. Please correct any error here, it's been decades since it was 1st discovered.
