Correct answer: Iran Hostage Crisis

Carter was the most honest and moral president I've seen in my 66 years. The trouble is that politics chews up and spits out the good people and leaves us with the liars and thieves.

Nightrunner, actually the reason Iran released the hostages was because Reagan had cut a secret deal with Iran to supply them with arms and military spare parts if they agreed to detain the hostages until Carter was defeated in the US presidential election and had left the White House. A private citizen negotiating a pact with a foreign government amounted to treason, akin to private citizen Nixon cutting a secret deal with North Vietnam to have them reject peace talks in order to defeat Hubert Humphrey, LBJ's vice president, in the 1968 US election. Truth hurts, doesn't it?
