Read Jules Verne “The Mysterious Island” and you’ll learn a lot of practical chemistry and science in a fun way! If I only had that book, I feel like I could be stranded on a deserted island and I could survive quite comfortably! lol Good read!

LordGregory69, A parent brought me an arm-size fulgarite to my middle school science class that he found where a high voltage power line had hit the ground. It was a great object for me to play 20 questions with the students.

AnaYelisa, let's nitpick why don't we. Silica is a from of sand and not all people call it silica.

glass is not made from sand it's made from silica which is a raw form... also it is a super cool liquid that over time will start to melt or sag. this can be seen in old glass in the 17th and 18th century

My grandma was a glass maker.

Fulgurites are created when lighting hits sand. I found one at Sand Dunes National Monument and showed it to a park interpreter. I was pretty young and didn't know I wasn't supposed to pick it up to keep it.. so it was taken away!
AnaYelisa
the correct answer should be silica
