Lady Bird was a highly accomplished woman. She was an early proponent for conservation and the environment. She also built significant business holdings and developments in her own right. LBJ was complicated and his decisions with Vietnam overshadowed the great work he accomplished with Civil Rights and the Great Society.

Most of the president's wives, before AND after Mamie Eisenhower, (including the one in the photo) had a positive public persona. However, the last one was definitely overshadowed by an extremely public focus husband.
