Which is the longest bridge over water in the U.S.?
Correct answer: Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge
Player Say what!?
Too funny. 15 years ago my sister and I drove on that bridge knowing nothing of it. After quite some time I said with gusto, "wow, what a long bridge. it's gotta be a record!" I didn't know till now I was right.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge has 2 tunnels over it's length (now it's a twin bridge when they added a 2nd span). When the tunnels develop leaks in the ceiling, it's pretty terrifying with water gushing in above you and your car is moving slowly through a foot of water. The engineers use a double decker bus with the roof cut off to do repairs. I still can't believe they allow vehicle traffic to cross when they have leaks!

ZyggyStardust, I'd take a long detour like you! I lived previously in Mnpls, MN and was running late for work on the morning the I35 bridge collapsed. Had I not been running behind that day I could've quite possibly been one of the people on the bridge that fateful morning! It's very interesting how life works, I'm never late for work yet that morning I was.

Phiend99, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge spans from Sandy point to Kent island in Maryland and has no tunnels. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel spans from kiptopeake VA. to Virginia Beach and has two tunnels.

Phiend99, When my husband & I drove the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, about 10 yrs. ago,we had to dodge about 50 dead seagulls. Yuck ! But, the bride itself was pretty cool.

The Golden Gate was the longest SUSPENSION bridge, and I'm not sure that's true any more.
