I'm a lover of these tasty little plants - one of my favorite green vegetables. They're not given the attention as some others & it's a pity we don't see them on the menu very often. As for where they originated, I think they simply gained an appreciation in Belgium sooner than other locales - hence the name.

People... Who in the Blue Hell quits reading explanation mid sentance?! It stated: Although native to the Mediterranean region with other cabbage species, (please note the comma) Brussels sprouts FIRST (note the word first stated here) appeared in northern Europe during the fifth century, later being cultivated in the 13th century near Brussels, from which they derived their name. Oy Vey!
