Which insect can run on water?

Careful with local common terms for almost anything in nature! Every country will almost certainly have different colloquial names for things. For example, in the UK we have pond skaters, waterboat men and doubtless others, but water striders? Nah.

AliTob, Pond skaters are always the first insects to arrive in my pond in the springtime. I guess it's because they can fly.

We used to call them “Skates”. I hated trying to get them out of my pool!
