What is a regular seasonal movement of birds, often from north to south called?

I live in Kentucky. there is alot of migration. hummingbirds fly 3000 miles south and Geese fly North. I love their sound

I used to live near the shore by Lake Erie where there was a lot of marsh land and watched the birds gather to migrate in the fall. Huge flicks of birds would fly abstractly up and down and right to left. I always wondered if they were picking a leader to follow for the migration south.

Daybonn, Apparently they are looking for the exact same spot that the left from. It is one of the reasons they lose their way due to habitat changes from road or housing development!
