This had NOTHING to do with weather or trains! Daylight savings time was started to save power during WWI... now it wastes power it's obsolete and needs to go.

We should be able to vote the entire concept out of existence.

Mardell Riley, I dont know either but it sure causes a lot of havoc on the farm. When the cows finialy figure out they need to come in an hour early the time changes and now they stand for an hour with their bags full dripping milk all over the ground.

Player #1616747, hate to tell you, the sun shines for a specific number of hours each day based on the angle of the Earth's axis to the sun. you do not get "more sunlight" because you reset your clock. If you chose to use more of the sunlight hours, that because of your scheduling, not the sun's availability.

I thought daylight savings was all about the farmers needing more time in the sun

Greeny Froggy, not true! My husband grew up on a dairy farm and attests to the fact that cows can’t tell time and continue to operate on their own schedule. Farmers don’t try to change the cow’s milking schedules.

Montana Lady, it is not saying that daylight savings was created for trains, it is saying that time zones were created because of train travel which is correct. Standard times had to be created to normalize train schedules.

Montana Lady, the writer refers to the establishment of TIME ZONES, not Daylight Savings Time. I dislike it too, but if it saved power in WWII, it stands to reason that it still does, unless the amount of daylight has changed appreciably in the last 75 years...

U.S. government has a bill under consideration to make daylight saving time permanent. No leaping forward and falling back. I guess that means daylight saving time will then be Standard time. Strange huh. The state of Arizona does not go on daylight saving time. Some of the Native Amercan nations in Arizona do observe daylight savings time. There are a couple of other states that don't change times also. but I don't remember which ones they are.

Correction on some comments. 1. The explanation of the creation of time zones has nothing to do with daylight saving time. 2. Daylight saving time was begun during World War II. 3. Daylight saving time is a misnomer. You are not saving Daylight. It was brought about so people could do their daily routine during sunlight. The government wanted it dark at night so the Germans could not see where the cities were if they flew over to bomb our country like they did in Europe. 4. Daylight savings time has no use today and needs to be ended.

Montana Lady, personally I'm all for keeping it. if my state does away with it I'll move to another state that has it. I live daylight savings time and don't see it as a waste of power one bit.

The daylight saving changes time by one hour. I always wondered why they can’t average it in 30 minutes and keep it as standard time throughout the year.

Montana Lady, Ancient civilizations adjusted daily schedules to the sun more flexibly than DST does, often dividing daylight into 12 hours regardless of daytime, so that each daylight hour became progressively longer during spring and shorter during autumn.[12] For example, the Romans kept time with water clocks that had different scales for different months of the year; at Rome's latitude, the third hour from sunrise (hora tertia) started at 09:02 solar time and lasted 44 minutes at the winter solstice, but at the summer solstice it started at 06:58 and lasted 75 minutes.[13] From the 14th century onwards, equal-length civil hours supplanted unequal ones, so civil time no longer varied by season. Unequal hours are still used in a few traditional settings, such as some monasteries of Mount Athos[14] and all Jewish ceremonies.[15] Wikiped
