In which country is euthanasia permitted?
Correct answer: Belgium
Player Say what!?
20 years ago my Dutch friend's mother was euthanized as she had cancer. I knew what day and time it was to happen and to my surprise she called me just prior to tell me she loved me and to say "goodbye". It was surreal and I'll never forget. Thank God she didn't suffer from the cancer.

Frito77, no one should suffer from a terminal disease. it should be legal in the U.SA

Gary, I hope nothing bad ever happens to you (& I mean that sincerely) but it is selfish to allow people to suffer because of yr own feelings. Perhaps if u saw real suffering you'd change yr mind
Suzy Z
I suppose the reason why it’s not legal in the US is because the insurance companies can suck more money out of people if they keep them alive with treatments and medicine

I've been in favour of AS since I was in my teens, but it was only two or three years ago that I decided to investigate the costs.
The final cost is many thousands of pounds, but to join (my choice was Dignitas) the first year's membership was only about 350 Swiss francs, with yearly membership of 80 Swiss francs.
I have MS and if I get to the stage where I need someone to look after me almost 24/7 then I don't want to be stuck in a nursing home, having to live my life by someone else's timetable, and watch money, which I want to go to charity, being gobbled up by their fees, I will be able to make a choice about my fate.
I'm a member of Dignity in Dying and Friends at the End, both of which are lobbying to have the Government allow AS here in the UK.

Suzy Z, yes you are so right ,and to watch loved ones suffer especially when our loved ones are on hospice, and hearing them gurgle and take their last breath is so heartbreaking, and if America government had to see these loved ones would maybe understand more .

DSDA, I don’t think it should be used for disabilities - just for terminal illness!

Oregon in the United States will allow a person to chose death with dignity. It is something all the states need to pass.

Player #8583667, I believe there is a state in the East of USA that does allow it. I am the last living person in my family & I feel we should honor living wills & allow it.

We put our pets out of their misery instead of seeing them suffer, why not our loved ones who are terminally ill and ask.

what happens to the life insurance when the person who is of able mind decides to be euthanized ? I am sure that ALL insurance is null and void, which I think is wrong on the insurance. They try their hardest tk not have to pay out.

DSDA,
But ‘relieving families and government ‘ is NOT euthanasia is it ? That’s state approved murder ! Easing the ‘ sufferers ‘ is the aim of euthanasia and only the them, it’s a hotly debated issue 🤷🏼♀️

maggiemylove, no it does not leave any opening for suicide if it as it should be for the terminally ill... nothing to do with mental heath which would be a whole different thing. Terminally ill people should have a choice...

Poor question. It's still euthanasia when you put down your pet. The answer is also out of date.

DSDA, This is a process and there is always time to reflect or withdraw. Patients need to be of sound mind when the request is made..

DSDA, I am grateful to see this dialogue. There is a process that takes place when the patient and their families first request MAID. Medically

It was also legalized in Canada in 2016, termed as Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID)
