Correct answer: Mel Gibson

It was a great film and movies like Braveheart, Spartacus, Ben Hur and the like are merely based on historical events and should never be taken as factual.
Chill out, put your feet up, grab the popcorn and... enjoy.

Player Elf Counsel,
Statues of him and monuments to him all over Scotland, not just in Stirling. He was the son of a wealthy landowner but whether he lived in a castle or not is debatable.

It is a great film, that is of no doubt, but the actual story of William Wallace is far more romantic in gesture, radical by nature, dramatic in defiance and triumphant in achievements. It was once thought that William Wallace was born in Elderslie, Renfrewshire, but the question now seems as settled as it ever will be - considering the lack of confirmational evidence - that he was born in Ellerslie, Ayrshire. This is due to the fact that, upon the success of Stirling Bridge, William Wallace sent letters to Hamburg and Lubeck in Germany to reopen trading ports to Scotland, and in this letter he addresses himself as son of Alan Wallace of Ellerslie, which is confirmed by a signature on the 1296 Ragman Roll of an Alan Wallace of Ayrshire. Wallace also had two brothers, Malcolm and Alexander. What also may be true is that his campaign may have started from William Hesilrig's, Sheriff of Lanark, killing of his wife Murion Braidfort; and he had an uncle who was a clergyman that raised Wallace to be destined for the church. Had that happened, the Wallace name may never have been entered into the history books.

I used to absolutely love Mel Gibson, until I read a book about him. He hates the English people so much , he deliberately made us look bad in Braveheart!!

Hugo, But very cavalier in his treatment and opinions of Jews and women.
