When was the Italian opera 'La Traviata' first performed?

My wife and I had the pleasure of attending a performance of La Traviata a few years ago at the Sydney Opera House. Very well done by the cast at the time.

Both the gorgeous music and the sad story always brings tears to my eyes.

I would love to see it!!
