AloofHobgoblin3407, the answer says 13 provinces and territories, meaning both in total.

Beelzebubba, read the q&a again: only province that has French as an official language; doesn't say it's the only one
AloofHobgoblin3407

I VISITED THIS CITY IN 1967 DURING THE WORLS FAIR. SO LOVELY AND THE PEOPLE ARE VERY FRIENDLY. WE RODE THE METRO AND I REALLY ENJOYED IT. THE BUS DRIVERS ARE LIKE MANIACS.

I made my first trip to Quebec, Canada and enjoyed it. I don't speak French either, yet I was able to get by. Lovely place.

To clarify, I meant areas of Quebec, not Canada as a whole.

In areas that survive on tourism English is no problem. In others, they are snobs - even to their own kind who don't "properly" pronounce French adaptations of English words. Just ask my French Canadian friends.

AloofHobgoblin3407, bravo!

Technically it's all provinces. French is federally recognized as an official language of Canada.

New Brunswick also has it as an official language as it's officially bilingual, and it is one of the choices.

I'm an American - more specically an Oklahoma native - So, I have "no skin in the game", so to speak; and I think French is a beautiful language. I wish I'd learned to speak it. I also think that with all the other things we have to worry about & quibble over, this issue is pretty insignificant.

Canadagirl, that's actually true across the country for a federal position, even if you never use it

FYI You have to be bilingual to get a Government job in New Brunswick. I am pure French, not fluent at all. Shame.

Beelzebubba, you are right. Every province has French as one of our official languages.
