Most medium to large-sized towns in France have a street named after him. I live in Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau in South West France.

Rousseau was also in line with Locke, in that man is quite capable of self-governing. Also, as opposed to Hobbes, Rousseau believed man was inherently or “born” good, whereas Hobbes thought man as brutish. Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin subscribed to Rousseau and Locke, and Madison crafted our Constitution based on the freedoms necessary to form a democracy. Rousseau despised “spare the rod, spoil the child” parenting.
