I am pretty sure that they mentioned several times that the Coopers were from East Texas, which has a reputation of being "extremely redneck". Galveston is on the Gulf coast near Houston. Jim Parsons actually grew up in the suburbs of Houston.

Qatwalk, Some who have watched the shows closer than I have have said that the town of Lufkin fits his town somewhat. I lived in Pasadena and a couple of SE Texas towns early in my life, but that was late 40's to early 50's...much too early for Sheldon's childhood. Thank goodness I didn't catch the religious bug like his mother did!

I enjoyed how he’s always lording over people about his flawless grammar, but the writers’ grammar wasn’t flawless, and the actor didn’t catch it when he messed up.

I loved this show. I like shows that have the characters evolving and the writers did that with these characters. The ending of the final episode makes me bawl every time I watch it.
