We stopped at Port Said on my way to Australia. We weren't allowed off the ship, but men in little boats came out to sell their goods. They set up ropes and hauled the products up the side of the ship in baskets. Ingenious, but some passengers were tricked, like shoes that turned out to be made of cardboard and cushions with very dubious stuffing ( which for hygiene reasons were ordered to be thrown overboard) Very interesting and exciting days for a 10 year old.
