I've never heard of Jacob Davis. Poor sob. Levi Strauss got all the fame and fortune. Why didn't Davis get any credit? Strauss just supplied the fabric, Davis birthed the idea.

Generally speaking, new jeans are rather uncomfortable. They are stiff, heavy, scratchy, and NOT comfortable. The pre-washed variety are the exception & they're not bad. My experience has been that it requires 10 to 15 good washings before new jeans begin to soften & are more comfortable.

Although I often wear jeans in the spring and in the fall, I don't like to wear them in hot weather due to the heavy fabric. Yet the fabric fails to keep a person warm in the winter!

ChampionNymph37634, Would Levi or Davis ever have imagined that people would pay 2-3 times more for jeans that were filled with artificial tear holes. Also, pre-washing weakens the fabric and again shorts the life of the jeans!

I remember when Jeans were like $5.00 tops! And I kept thinking these are so nice & sturdy…someday the price is going to get jacked up. C’est la vie!

Elaine King, indeed! I need/ like some room for my body (legs & ""stuff") to be comfortable, and have never been fond of how any male looks in tight jeans. I used to make fun of any of my friends that would dare wear them. Guys, leave the tight jeans for the ladies, PLEASE!

Lioneyes, I’m glad he did. Or else I’d be wearing a pair of Jacob’s 502’s. Doesn’t work.

Elaine King, I disagree. I enjoy the look of a slender man in skinny jeans. But then again, I'm a dirty old lady.

and then Levi's came out with the button-fly instead of a zipper, which wasn't much of a good idea if you really had to go...whatever.

ChampionNymph37634, this can be true, if you buy "value brands" as opposed to the higher priced name brands the denim is typically thinner and more comfortable. FYI Only.

Lioneyes, where it says Davis needed a business partner, it means that he needed someone with money he could borrow. As you know borrowed money is called 'credit', this is why.

I read that the fabric, denim was originally from Nimes, France so the word was, de Nimes (from Nimes). Jeans are now a signature of American culture and treasured world wide.
