Player Say what!?
Rumor has it that young people today don't know how to decipher an analog watch.

A broken clock is right two times a day.
Player Sherry
makes sense. Interesting urban legends. any others?.
ProudCanadian
10:10 or 1:50? Both are symmetrical. My son was born at 1:50 PM and we always called him our Timex baby.

Player Say what!?, It isn't a rumor. I have taught in high school for over 40 years and have an analog clock hanging in the classroom. The students are taught to read it in lower grades, but because of prominence of digital clocks these days, most do not practice reading the analog clock and therefore do not have confidence. I try to reinforce analog time as often as I can. It's 20 'til 3 or a quarter past 1.

I was once told it represent a smiley face. 10.10 looks like a curvature

Uninitialized, imagine people 200 years ago saying. ..and they dont even know how to make butter or leather haha
Lucybird
It’s not a rumor. Teachers in Colorado stopped teaching analog time in early 2000s. Too many other important skills took precedence when digital clocks became ubiquitous.

Peg, and mine was born on 8-8-88 at 8(03)am. the Dr actually asked if I wanted him to try and wait 5 more minutes so it would be 8:08am Lol! I'm yelling NO! NO! Just please...Hurry!!
Lash
I hear many younger people who say that 1:15pm shouldn't be called "a quarter after one" bc there are 25¢ in a quarter, therefore one should use 1:25pm. Really?! What about the argument that :15 is one quarter of an hour (15×4=60)Ergo 1:15pm = a quarter after one. Still makes sense, right?

Dear players, the only real reason is an act of respect for the decapitated king Louis the XVI, of France. The execution happened at 10.10 in the morning. King Louis was a great fan and connoisseur of watches.
At the presumed time of the execution all watchmakers stopped working. RIP

Shariff, or how to butcher a chicken, sew clothes. People are such ageists. At least the "kids" I work with don't need me to walk them through every miniscule step on using a computer to do their charting on their patients.

Player Say what!?, LOL, how young? I am a nurse in a SNF and the late teen to early 20's CNAs I work with do just fine with analog clocks.

Player Say what!?, it’s true! They have no idea or understand when you tell them the time the analog way,eg. It’s quarter to ten. They look blank. If you say 9.45 they know what you mean.
DeadEye
Player Say what!?, i met a 16 yr old kid who couldn’t read an analog watch.
Steve

8:20 and 2:45 (sort of) are also symmetrical.

Player Say what!?, It is true! I was a chief engineer at a Marriott Hotel and sent my twenty something employee to reset an analog clock. He had to Google it.

ProudCanadian, it's always 10:10. the angle between the hands is too narrow at 1:50 and would still obscure the logo on many watches.
Waseem Khan
One legend in India is that the inventor of watch died at this time.

Player Sherry, It looks like a smile.
Natasha

Player #30564864, that is what I always heard, that advertisers preferred 10:10 bc it looked happy.

There's a song by the group, Chicago. The title is the answer to the question, what time is it,
25 or 6 to 4. In other words, 3:35

TwoTin16, so how do they tell kids on drivers' ed how to position their hands on the steering wheel, of not "ten o'clock and two o'clock"? And how do people alert each other "Angry boss at three o'clock" or "hottie at nine o'clock" or whatever?
Player #66817220
SMD, to show off the second hand as well?
Player #66817220
Qatwalk, having grown up with analog, I can't imagine not having that visual frame of reference to picture what 10:10 or 3:25 actually "mean". Just raw numbers. How do people handle that?
Player #66817220
Player Say what!?, or tie their shoes, if they're used to Velcro.
