When did the first reported sighting of Tasmania by a European take place?

Were there any indigenous people living on the island before the white Europeans settled there or was the island deserted?

yes there were and they were literally hunted to extinction. treated so badly the women stopped conceiving. at least one of the indigenous persons was subjected taxidermy when they died. horrid story.
