Because Greece cared so much for it that it was trashed . It wasn’t the French who lost the arms or the original plinth. Without the French reconstruction it would be a heap of rubble . That’s why it is displayed in France

I saw this beautiful statue once when I visited the Louvre as a teenager and I was surprised to see it just out in the open at the top of a wide staircase.
