Which city is believed to be one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world?

I visited Jericho in 2000 whilst on an educational tour of Israel and Egypt. Back then it was relatively safe, and the people were very respectful. Such a lot has changed. There was no wall dividing Israel and Palestine. So sad how swiftly things change.

Not even an estimate on how old it is? How absurd.

Basem, the oldest city in Egypt is Luxor and dates to a little over 4000 years. Damascus, Syria and Jericho on the West Bank have both been dated anywhere from 9000-11000 years.
