We do have mosquitoes in the UK
30 species to be exact, but only 23 of them bite people, that's more than enough.
The others bite animals and birds.
Then of course there are the midges of Scotland, an evil breed of biting insect that commonly draw blood.

I was bitten all over on holiday, don't have them in the UK. I was advised to drink tonic water, they don't like quinine apparently, so that with garlic could really help 😀
