Why was "Alice in Wonderland" banned in 1930s China?

I've read it twice it still doesn't make any sense it's just a fairy tale made up to entertain children, that just goes to show how weird some cultures can be..

I thought it would have been because of the caterpillar with the hookah.

Horrifying that people can regard animals as inferior. The first thing you teach children is that all animals are equal and that humans are just one of many species, and not one of the best either.

That doesn’t make sense. All Chinese are raised on the classic tale, “Journey to the West,” featuring the monkey king and pig walking upright. There’s dialogue between those characters and others whom I’ve forgotten.
