Arohanui, the point is to catalog it. Plus, it's fun to discover something that has only been theorized: black holes, planetoids, elements. Also, now that we know it exists someday a use might be found for it.

He was principal or co-discoverer of ten elements: plutonium, americium, curium, berkelium, californium, einsteinium, fermium, mendelevium, nobelium and element 106, which, while he was still living, was named seaborgium in his honour.
