Malta has beautiful coastal scenery but not many great beaches, especially sandy ones. The smaller island of Gozo is better for good beaches. Maltese is the main official language with English second. Italian is also relatively widely understood. Unfortunately over the last dozen years or so Malta has become increasingly expensive.
