There were two heavy-duty barbiturates that were in heavy use during the 1960s and '70s, Seconal and Nembutal. I believe that the drug that killed Marilyn Monroe was Nembutal. It has an amnesiac effect that can cause users to forget they already took the drug, so they accidentally take it again, and it doesn't take much to kill a person.

Give a "sedagive." I recently received a surgical injection of medication into my hip for rheumatoid arthritis. I was asked if I wanted a sedative before the procedure. I said if it is optional, then I do not need it. ;)

They actually have less serious side effects than so many of today's "safer" drugs which in many ways are way more dangerous !! Anti - psychotics can cause Tardive Dyskinesia and extramydial effects that often don't go away.
